[edit] Description
A race found on the continent of
Thestra, the
Vulmane have the appearance of bipedal wolves. They are superlative woodsmen with a tribal culture, and not welcoming of other races.
The Vulmane once allied with the orcs and goblins of Thestra in a war against the other races of Thestra. Those Vulmane who did not take up arms in the war were spared after the defeat. However, this history left them in uneasy territory, regarded with great suspicion by the masters of Thestra.
During the Undead Invasion, the Vulmane were driven from their forest home (actually the territory of the High Elves) and journeyed to the Northern Plains. In return for their fealty, the Thestran King granted them territory on these plains, and they have settled there, constructing villages far away from their forests.
[edit] Official Description
The ferocious and wolf-like Vulmane roamed in packs for thousands of years, constantly warring among themselves and engaging in skirmishes with the elves. It is only recently that the undead menace and the threat of being wiped out has forced them to create a more permanent settlement and to change their warlike ways.
They live in the primitive and tribal village of Dahknarg, where they are lead by a clan chief. At the moment, they are entered in a tentative alliance with the other races of Thestra though at times tensions, especially with the elves, still run high. However, despite their beastly appearance and tribal ways the Vulmane are a noble race. Honor, respect, strength and loyalty are valued in Vulmane society. They are master woodsmen, fearsome warriors and once you have earned their trust and respect – valuable allies.

[edit] Relevant Lore
"While the Vulmani are not entirely wolf-like, the head, feet and hands are unmistakably lupine. Each Vulmane I have witnessed is covered completely in fur. Even though my observations of this race has been limited, I have seen a variety of fur colors - various shades of brown are most frequent but gray, black and white are not uncommon."
The Peoples of Thestra and Its Environs
"It appears the Vulmane extend great reverence to their Chieftain. This is not a hereditary position but tied to the individual's strength and leadership ability. The position of Chieftain is secured through single combat and challenges can be made by other Vulmani within the society. During my time in Vulmane, I have heard several tales of unsuccessful challenges to the leadership of Sharpclaw Gormak."
The Peoples of Thestra and Its Environs
"...the vulmane are a people governed by custom and change is not something they welcome with open arms."
