Content in Vanguard is aimed toward both player character levels and numbers. Content can be designated as solo or grouped as casual, full party or as raid. These variations all signify the intended number of players who join together in combatting a situation. The outcome or reward for an encounter may change if greater or fewer players than the intended number participate.
A raid is more than one group of player characters who have united to seek out challenges greater than a single party could overcome. Raid encounters usually involve an encounter with a very powerful npc which requires coordination and strategy to overcome. Raid loot is usually the best dropped items in the game.
While the party is the core adventuring concept to be found in Vanguard, and the majority of the content is designed for party encounters, raid encounters are considered an important and desirable challenge. Raid encounters are also called end game encounters, but it is believed that Vanguard's end game will not be confined purely to raiding.
