Perception is one of the core systems affecting characters in Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. Many skills in all spheres are considered perception skills, although it is not entirely clear whether there is a perception attribute which underlies these skills it is known that attributes such as intelligence will affect perception and that equipment can provide bonuses to perception skills.
[edit] Perception Checks
Generally, perception is a character's ability to notice something - whether discovering a hidden enemy, recognising the opening moves of a spell, or spotting an opportunity for attack. Perception checks automatically occur during gameplay (approximately every three seconds) and, if successful, will provide the player with vital information about upcoming events. Perception, in Vanguard's reactionary gameplay system, allows players to strategically plan their next action.
Additionally, perception is not confined to player characters, and mob behaviour will alter depending on its successful perception of a party's strength. A mob with superior perception may avoid or stalk a party. Other factors, such as the speed the players are moving, will effect the difficulty of perception checks.

- Tactic Recognition - a perception skill which is used for spotting weaknesses in your opponent's attack and allowing you to determine a proper response to that weakness. Tactic Recognition has a second use which has not yet been revealed.
- Detection - allows players to detect stealthed enemies.
