[edit] Description

A creepy mansion in a lowland forest of Thestra. There's no telling what might await adventurers who choose to enter.

[edit] Artist Commentary

"The Hilsbury Manor is one of my favorite projects that I've worked on. Design asked if I would build a creepy mansion for the lowland forest area on Thestra. Naturally, I was pumped about it. I only had two weeks from start to finish on it so I had to come up with something that I could manage within that time constraint. I built a 3D sketch of the overall shape of the exterior and used cubes with simple doors for the interior to get a feel for size and layout. I placed the geometry in the game and ran around it and it was much larger than I had anticipated but necessary to fit all the elements that I felt like needed to be there for this place to work. I knew it was going to cost me a lot of late nights to finish it in time. The following couple of days, as I started building and placing assets in the world, design came to me with all of these awesome storyline and gameplay ideas so I said "ok, we need to have a meeting about this. This place is becoming more than just a point-of-interest". We negotiated with Dave Gilbertson for an extra week and he was glad to grant it after hearing the plan of what this was becoming.

I wanted this place to spark a lot of atmosphere from the moment you walk through the front gate. I'm a big fan of horror films and I wanted it play out like a good film. When you walk through the gate you can see that house was once a beautiful, well-kept manor with grounds covered in clipped hedges and flowers under a canopy of pine trees. The Koi pond in the front lawn would have been a place of peace and serenity. Now, it's a journey of terror! It's a really fun place to explore." - Matt McCulloch, Artist

[edit] Detailed Information (Spoilers)

The mansion is divided into several areas, allowing groups to adventure here in several different configurations. Small groups can handle the outer ground and possibly the lower floor. A full group is recommended for the upper floor.

  • Adventurers in this zone are frequently afflicted with Curse of the Vampire. This curse has to be removed (presumably by a quest).

The quest to remove the Vampire Curse is in the Vampire hunters camp just south of Hilsbury Manor there is a hidden door on the ground that leads down to a npc with a quest call "Curing the curse" and you will also get a pet that can be used at day time but doing this quest will prevent you from getting the Vampire form quest.

[edit] Outside the Mansion

Outside the mansion the population is primarily 3 dot mobs of levels 19-21. Some of these are linked in groups of two of three and include:

  • Gargoyles - keep an eye out for the rare drop Black Blood from the gargoyles - this can be right-clicked to start a quest.
  • Servants
  • Beetles
  • Wolves

(Exact names later)

The grounds can be explored extensively, and include some side-buildings.

[edit] Lower Floor

On the lower floor of mansion the population is primarily 3 dot mobs of levels 20-22, but there are some 4 dots. Some of these are linked in groups of two of three and include:

The lower floor consists of the entry hall, the library and the dining room.

In the library, there are numerous ground spawn of books, from which pages can be extracted. Extracting pages will usually cause a spirit to spawn and attack.

The dining room causes considerable mass-mob pull issues at the moment.

[edit] Dungeon

Between the stairs on the ground floor is a secret door guarded by two linked mobs. This leads to a maggot and grub-infested dungeon room. The grubs here drop parts of a 'frankenstein' type creature. After collecting a head, torso and bones, you can right-click these (non-tradeable) items to (presumably) build your own monster. Industrial Tweezers

[edit] Upper Floor

The upper floor is primarily 4 dot mobs.
