This is a compilation of recommended places to go/quests to do to grind faction to access particular places and races:

[edit] Hathor Zhi/Dark Elves

At your mid-teens:

Evendusk Fortress in the Hathor Zhi chunk. [Access from The Temple of Dailuk and follow the south rim of the canyon. Do not go down into the canyon.] There are many quests available from the Fortress, or you could just kill things in the Wildwood Forest (check name) here to gain Dark Elf faction.

[edit] Mekalia/Gnomes

At low levels:

Just outside the entrance to the city of Mekalia are a couple of mining sites (with Ulabenian miners in them). Kill these for Mekalia faction.

At high teens:

Go to Tauthien Delta and Skrilien Point and look for the gnome encampments and bunkers. Again, there are a number of quests available from here, or you could just kill Tauthien lizardmen to gain Gnome faction.

At low twenties:

Tauthiens in eastern part of Skrilien Point.

At mid-twenties:

the Skawlra of Skawlra Rock will give Mekalia faction.

[edit] Khal/Qaliathari and Mordebi

At low levels and teens:

Kill Ksaravi. Lots of Ksaravi.
Harami Bandits (located east of Khal) and the bandits occupying the Sands of Verihn (west of Khal) are also good faction targets.

At low twenties:

At mid-twenties:

The Skawlra of Skawlra Rock will give Khal faction.

[edit] Three Rivers/Thestran Humans

During your teens:

Bugbears are a good start. Or go to Renton Keep and obtain the quest to kill things in Tharridon's Scar.

[edit] Bordinar's Cleft/Dwarves

Low teens:

Kill Boulder Wildman Brute and Boulder Wildman between Bordinar's Cleft and Bordinar's Cleft Side Entrance. Also Bugbears near Three Rivers

[edit] Tanvu/Half-Elves and Kojani

Killing the Ulvari of the Blighted Lands will give faction with both Tanvu & Ca'ial Brael.

For diplomats, the quest Smuggler's Delight and its follow-up will give you a large amount of faction with all 3 Kojan cities if you turn in the smugglers.

Killing the Ulvari of the Blighted Lands will give faction with both Tanvu & Ca'ial Brael.

For diplomats, the quest Smuggler's Delight and its follow-up will give you a large amount of faction with all 3 Kojan cities if you turn in the smugglers.

Kill Deranged Redcap, Incoherent Redcap, Wicked Redcap, and Redcap Ambusher near Tursh Village.

Killing Stonesmasher Clan bugbears increases this faction.

[edit] Faction and Crafters

Crafters often need to obtain faction to gain recipes from specific trainers, or to complete quests. Work Orders do provide you with faction, so, other than grinding on mobs, grinding on work order to obtain faction is a possibility. If you are kill on sight in the area, it is possible to find outposts with crafting stations (eg. the bunkers in Tauthien Delta have crafting stations and taskmasters). Doing work orders at outposts will also grant faction standing with any city that trades with that outpost.

UPDATE: As of March 2009, much of this information is out of date. A new faction assessment is in the works, and is currently listed under Finishing Taskmaster and Refining Taskmaster. This article will be updated when those new articles are complete.
