Barbarian refers to large, human races that are somewhat more tribal & primitive than their urban counterparts. They are said to have have originated from an ancient seafaring tribe known as the "Varansul." The two known barbarian races are:

• Varanjar - Barbarians who start on Thestra in Halgarad. They have a Celtic / Scandinavian look.
• Varathari - Barbarians who start on Qalia in Lomshir. They resemble the Berbers of North Africa, likely the Numidians. Varanthari culture is deeply rooted in equestrianism.
